DESCRIPTION: This playful and engaging workshop will provide the foundational and basic elements of play therapy from a child-centered play therapy lens. First, a history of play therapy will be discussed through an interactive game. Second, we will dive into the therapeutic powers of play, the meaning and function of play, symbolic play, child development, key definitions of play therapy, and the neurobiology of play and play therapy. Third, a summary of key theoretical approaches in play therapy will be explored. Fourth, toy selection and setting up a playroom will be described. Lastly, key components of conducting a play therapy session and basic facilitative responses will be presented and practiced. Various instructional methods will be used to engage participants, including small group discussions, case examples throughout, video demonstration, and practice/role-play sessions.

VIRTUAL PARTIPICANT REQUIREMENTS (for virtual attendees ONLY):

Completion of post-test and evaluation prior to receiving CE certificate.
Attendees must hold a Master’s degree in a mental health field or are currently enrolled in a Master’s degree program in a mental health field to qualify for a play therapy CE certificate.
